To coincide with the Symposium the following events will be held throughout September 2007:

 

  • InterAction Two Day Leadership Workshop, 12th - 13th September 2007

Do you want to learn more about your role as a leader?

Do you want to work with and learn from other leaders?

The British Council is pleased to be able to offer a two-day InterAction Leadership Programme to 35 delegates and panelists at the Science and Technology Symposium being hosted by Mbarara University of Science and Technology in Uganda.

InterAction is a transformational leadership programme which, for the past 3 years, has been working with dynamic and innovative individuals who want to make a positive difference in their circles of influence – work, organisation and community.

 

If you are interested in participating in this programme, then please read the Programme Information, then complete and submit your typed application form to us no later than 27 August 2007.  Successful candidates will be contacted by 31 August 2007. 

Bed and breakfast on 11 and 12 September and lunch on 12 and 13 September will be covered by the organisers.

  • Management Forum - Uganda

"The British Council is delighted to host a Mangement Forum - Uganda in Kampala, in September 2007. This event is timed to coincide with the Science and Technology Symposium being hosted by Mbarara University of Science & Technology and will focus of the theme of what role science and technology can play in business devlopment and socio-economic transformation."

  • Realising People's Potential - 2007 Commonwealth People's Forum, 18th - 22nd November, Kampala, Uganda

The Commonwealth Foundation is pleased to announce that the 2007 Commonwealth People's Forum (CPF) will be held in Kampala, Uganda 18 - 22 November 2007. The theme will be Realising People's Potential.

This theme was chosen by citizens of Uganda to bring a 'people's' element to the discussions at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) which will be represented by 53 nations and 1.8 billion people. In selecting this theme it was recognised that people remain the most important resource for development. Since the 1960s policy makers, advisors, and political leaders in developed and developing countries have been formulating and implementing strategies aimed at achieving macroeconomic stability, economic growth and poverty reduction. After four decades much work remains to be done.

  • Commonwealth People's Forum Workshop on Knowledge Information  for Economic Transformation - Hotel Africana, Kampala (20th - 21st Semptember 2007)

The Workshop on Knowledge and Innovation for Economic Transformation at the Commonwealth Peoples’ Forum 2007 is organised by representatives of the knowledge and innovation practice community, namely, Imperial College London (IC) and the Studies Forum International Forum (SFI), in collaboration with the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU), and with the sponsorship of the Commonwealth Foundation and the Ugandan National Council for Science and Technology (UNCST).

The objective of the Workshop is to foster public discussion on harnessing knowledge and innovation for economic transformation and social transitions in general, with particular reference to science and technology research and development, especially through the expression of Commonwealth partnership, for the purpose of identifying strategic areas for promoting sustainable political, economic and social development.

  • African Regional Conference of Vice-Chancellors, Provosts, Deans of Science, Engineering & Technology (COVIDSET 2007) - 25th - 27th September 2007, Johannesburg, South Africa

The African Network of Scientific and Technological Institutions (ANSTI), has established the Conference of Vice-Chancellors, Deans of Science, Engineering and Technology (COVIDSET) as a forum for University leaders responsible for Science and Engineering Education to meet and dialogue on strategic issues in Science and Engineering Education. COVIDSET is a forum both for the exchange of ideas and experiences as well for the sensitization of University Leaders on trends in science and engineering education in the region and globally.
