"Science, Technology & Innovation: Key Drivers for Socio-Economic Transformation" - a Pre-CHOGM Science & Technology Symposium during Uganda's National Science Week
From the 13th to 15th September 2007 the Mbarara University of Science & Technology (MUST), Makerere University, the Uganda National Council for Science and Technology (UNCST), the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU), the Commonwealth Foundation (CF), the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), the British Council (BC), Uganda Office hosted "Science, Technology & Innovation: Key Drivers for Socio-Economic Transformation" - a Pre-CHOGM Science & Technology Symposium for Uganda.
The symposium focused on the disarticulation between the needs of society, particularly in the private sector and in industry on the one hand, and the provision of scientific knowledge and human resources from the education sector (from primary to tertiary) on the other. It also addressed the role, needs and opportunities of African business, and the changes required in [tertiary] education institutions if they are to develop effective synergies with the science and technology sector.
Held under the auspices of the Commonwealth Peoples' Forum (19th - 22nd November 2007), the symposium was held in the run up to Uganda's National Science Week and the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), to be held in Kampala, Uganda from the 23rd to 25th November 2007.
The Science & Technology Symposium was preceded by an InterAction Leadership Workshop from the 12th - 13th September, sponsored by the British Council.
